Hey folks! Today, I'm here to share some thoughts, and maybe even some uncomfortable truths, about political entitlement and privilege. It’s no secret that there's often a sense of entitlement among our political elites. These are the folks who claim to represent us, yet seem somewhat disconnected from the pulse of the general populace. Let's get into it.

First off, let’s look at what we mean by political entitlement. It's that invisible cloak some politicians wear, giving them an air of authority and a belief that they deserve more than what everyone else gets. This entitlement often comes intertwined with privilege—a combination that makes many political decisions feel out of touch with the everyday concerns of citizens.

Now, isn’t it intriguing how some politicians, who smile and wave at us from behind television screens, just don't seem to grasp the hardships faced by the general public? They profess to be standing up for us, yet many seem more at home in boardrooms than in the average citizen's living room. It begs the question: How well can one truly serve or empathize with a community from which they are distanced by layers of privilege?

I think these issues boil down to the comfort of the political elite's environment. When you're driven to work in cars with tinted windows and sit in cushy offices, it's easy to forget about the congested public buses or the person working two jobs to make ends meet. Some call it privilege. I say it’s an opportunity missed to bridge the gaps in our society.

The political elite often talk about wanting to embrace change, but it seems this change doesn’t apply to challenging the status quo that keeps them at the top. It’s like a challenging game where the rules are bent in favor of those writing them. And here we are, hoping for a fair chance in this rigged setup.

Some of you might say, "Sure, they’re comfortable and entitled, but doesn’t this happen everywhere?" And that’s absolutely true—entitlement isn’t exclusive to politics. However, its presence in politics is particularly unsettling because it directly impacts the lives of many who are left voiceless and underrepresented.

What can we do about it, though? Well, uncomfortable conversations about these disparities need to happen. Discussing these topics serves as a groundwork for understanding different perspectives and fostering a more inclusive political discourse. Activism and voting can be tools for change, but conversations are catalysts for broader awareness and action.

I recommend reading the book, Uncomfortable Ideas by Bo Bennett, PhD. It’s an eye-opener on so many topics that society often avoids talking about. It encourages the reader to confront issues head-on and embrace discomfort—something I think we all need a bit more of. Explore the book now to start your journey towards a better understanding of challenging topics.

The bottom line is this: Political entitlement and privilege aren’t going away overnight. But the more we recognize and talk about it, the more pressure it puts on the system to be more equitable and accountable. As always, question everything, stay informed, and keep having those thought-provoking conversations.

Until next time, take care, and keep challenging the norms. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to demand a more connected and representative political system.
